Farès Ghedjemis hailed after choosing Frosinone over Celtic

Algerian winger Farès Ghedjemis has received praise from Frosinone’s management after rejecting a major offer from Scottish giants Celtic during the January transfer window and helping the Italian club secure promotion to Serie A.

The 23-year-old emerged as one of the standout performers in Serie B this season as Frosinone finished second to seal a return to the Italian top flight.

His contribution proved decisive throughout the campaign, with the winger ending the season as the club’s leading scorer with 15 goals.

Interest in Ghedjemis intensified midway through the season following his impressive performances, and Celtic were among the clubs eager to secure his signature.

Despite the opportunity to join one of Scotland’s biggest clubs, the Algerian international chose to remain in Italy and continue the promotion battle with Frosinone.

The decision has now been publicly praised by the club’s general manager Pietro Doronzo, who pointed to the player’s commitment as an example of the unity that drove the team’s successful campaign.

Speaking to Radio Sportiva, Doronzo revealed that Celtic had made a serious attempt to sign the winger in January.

“I can tell you an episode that explains these boys’ attachment to the club. In January, there was a concrete possibility that Ghedjemis would leave: Celtic had presented a very large offer.

President Maurizio Stirpe, while knowing how fundamental he was for us, wanted to consult the player, reaffirming that Frosinone is not a prison,” he explained.

According to Doronzo, the player immediately made his intentions clear.

“The footballer responded clearly: ‘I want to stay here to win the championship.’ Turning down this offer was a risk, but the president’s courage and the boy’s determination were rewarded.

Today, Ghedjemis’s value has doubled and his performances have been crucial to our promotion,” added Doronzo.

Although Frosinone narrowly missed out on winning the Serie B title itself, the club still achieved its main objective by earning promotion to Serie A after a strong and consistent campaign.

Ghedjemis played a central role in that success. His goals, attacking movement and consistency made him one of the most influential players in the squad, while his performances also earned him international recognition.

The winger received his first senior call-up for Algeria in March and is now reportedly among the players being considered for the squad that will represent the country at the 2026 World Cup next month.

After choosing loyalty to Frosinone over a move abroad, Ghedjemis now heads into the next stage of his career with growing recognition in both Italian and Algerian football.
