It seems that the friendly football match between Equatorial Guinea and Togo, initially scheduled for today, June 5, has been postponed to Wednesday, June 5. This adjustment in the schedule was communicated by the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) due to changes made by Equatorial Guinea. Despite this last-minute change, both teams have agreed to honor the commitment and proceed with the friendly match, which serves as preparation for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
Gabriel Améyi, the president of the FTF, mentioned that the change was communicated to them before their departure, and they agreed to proceed with the match despite the sudden alteration in the schedule. Togo is gearing up to host Cameroon on June 9 in Lomé, while Equatorial Guinea’s team, Nzalang, is set to travel to Praia to face Cape Verde.
The main reason for the postponement appears to be the challenges faced by the Togolese national team at Malabo airport. The Togolese players arrived around midnight and spent the night in the VIP lounge at Malabo Airport due to delays in the planned connection between Malabo and Bata. The connection, which was supposed to take two hours, ended up taking four hours longer than expected.
The Togolese team eventually arrived in Bata, where the friendly match is now scheduled to take place tomorrow at 3 p.m. UT. Despite the challenges, a training session is planned for the evening. A group of 18 players is expected to participate in this match.
