Former France international of Senegalese descent Mamadou Sakho has warned Paris Saint Germain to be wary of Anfield ahead of the Champions League return leg against Liverpool.
The Red cruised to a narrow victory in France on Wednesday night, thanks to Harvey Elliot’s late strike in the match.
PSG dominated the match but Liverpool did the needful by snatching an important away win in the first leg clash.
Speaking L’Équipe, Sakho, who featured for both PSG and Liverpool said, “Anfield is not a game. It’s special, it’s like a gladiatorial arena. You have a Liverpool team there who, when they enter the field, are the equivalent of Popeye opening his can of spinach (laughter),” said the current FC Torpedo Kutaisi defender, who played for Liverpool between 2013 and 2017.
“90 minutes there is something to remember. Whatever the scenario on the way back, Parisians will remember it. They will realise how special this stadium is,”
“There are players like Marquinhos and Dembélé who have the ability to handle this type of match and this type of atmosphere and to look after the less experienced players.”
