Ferland Mendy is targeting a return for the start of the 2025/26 La Liga season after making clear his intention to remain at Real Madrid despite growing competition and recent injury concerns.
The 30-year-old, who was born in France to Senegalese parents, has resumed light training in the gym this week as he works towards full fitness ahead of Madrid’s league opener.
Mendy has had a difficult spell with injuries over the past two seasons, but remains determined to re-establish himself in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.
According to Spanish journalist Arancha Rodriguez, the left-back has no interest in leaving the Santiago Bernabéu and is instead focused on fulfilling his contract, which was agreed last September and runs until 2027.
Sources close to the player have reportedly expressed surprise that the club has not yet officially announced the extension, but there is no indication Mendy will seek a move.
The competition for places has intensified, with Real Madrid bringing in Alvaro Carreras and also counting on Fran García, who has grown in influence since his return to the club.
Despite this, Mendy’s camp believes he can fight for his place and still offer value to the squad.
The former Lyon defender joined Real Madrid in 2019 and has made over 130 appearances for the club, winning multiple titles including two La Liga crowns and the UEFA Champions League.
