Ayyoub Bouaddi has been called up to the France U21 squad for the Euro 2027 qualifiers, despite interest from Morocco in securing his international future.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who plays for LOSC Lille, has been in outstanding form this season, earning recognition as the club’s player of the month in both January and February.

Bouaddi has featured 23 times in Ligue 1 and made 10 appearances in the Europa League, establishing himself as a key figure in Lille’s midfield as the team sits fifth in the league after 26 matchdays.

French U21 coach Gérald Baticle announced the call-up on Friday, March 20th, signalling the federation’s intent to involve the promising talent in the upcoming Euro 2027 qualifying campaign.

Although Bouaddi has accepted the French call-up, he remains eligible to represent Morocco at senior level.

Moroccan coach Mohamed Ouahbi has described Bouaddi as “an exceptional talent” and outlined a project aimed at convincing him to play for Morocco, while making it clear that the decision ultimately rests with the player.

Even Didier Deschamps, head coach of the French senior team, has emphasised that Bouaddi will make his international choice independently, reflecting the careful balance between nurturing young talent and respecting personal preference.

Bouaddi’s emergence has not gone unnoticed in European football circles, with his performances drawing attention from scouts and national teams alike.

The next few months will be crucial in determining whether he continues with France or opts to represent Morocco at senior level.

As Euro 2027 qualifiers approach, France will hope that Bouaddi’s integration into the U21 squad strengthens their campaign and further develops one of the country’s brightest young midfielders.
