French-Guinean defender Dayot Upamecano confirms talks with Bayern Munich over new contract
Dayot Upamecano has confirmed that discussions between his representatives and Bayern Munich are underway as the club looks to extend his deal beyond next summer.
Speaking to reporters, the 26-year-old centre-back said he remains “comfortable” at the Allianz Arena despite no agreement yet being reached on the financial terms of a new contract.
Upamecano, born in France to Guinean parents, has established himself as a mainstay in Bayern’s defence since joining from RB Leipzig in 2021.
His current deal expires at the end of next season, and his situation is being closely monitored by top European clubs. Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are understood to be interested should an extension not materialise.
“I feel comfortable here and am happy to be able to work with a very good coach and great players,” Upamecano said.
“My agent is speaking with the Bayern officials. The talks are ongoing. There’s nothing more to say. We’ll see what happens.”
Bayern officials have reportedly prioritised securing the long-term futures of key players, with Upamecano viewed as central to the club’s plans under their current management.
However, differing views on salary and contract length have slowed negotiations, creating uncertainty around his future.
Upamecano’s comments are likely to reassure Bayern supporters that he is not seeking an imminent exit, but his contractual position means speculation over a potential move will persist until a deal is finalised.
