Bayern Munich have secured a significant defensive cornerstone after Dayot Upamecano committed his long-term future to the club, ending months of speculation surrounding his next career move.
The French international of Guinean descent, whose previous contract was approaching its expiration, has signed an extension that keeps him in Bavaria until 2030, reinforcing stability at the heart of the club’s backline.
Interest from several European heavyweights, including Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona, had intensified uncertainty over his future, but Bayern have successfully retained one of their most important defensive assets.
Since arriving from RB Leipzig ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, Upamecano has evolved into a commanding presence, blending physical strength with tactical intelligence to anchor the German champions’ defensive structure during a period of continued domestic success.
The 27-year-old has played a central role in the club’s trophy-winning consistency, helping them capture three successive Bundesliga titles as well as lifting the DFL-Supercup.
His extension signals Bayern’s intent to maintain continuity within a squad that continues to target both domestic dominance and European glory.
Upamecano expressed his satisfaction after finalising the agreement, stating, “I’m really happy to be staying at Bayern and continuing to play in this team. We’ve got a great team and a great coach.”
The defender emphasised the importance of collective ambition and personal commitment as he prepares for the next chapter of his career, adding, “We’ve got big goals together. In life, it’s always about mentality. I give my all for my teammates, in every training session, want to keep a clean sheet in every game and want to win as many titles as possible with Bayern.”
