French Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco have announced the acquisition of Ivory Coast international Simon Adingra on transfer deadline day.
Adingra joins the Principality club on loan from Premier League outfit Sunderland, keeping him at the French outfit until the end of the current campaign.
The winger loan deal worth £1 million, with a permanent acquisition set at €17 million.
“AS Monaco is pleased to announce the arrival of Simon Adingra. The 24-year-old Ivorian international winger is on loan by Sunderland until the end of the season, with an option to buy. Welcome and Daghe Simon” wrote the club.
Adingra, who joined Sunderland from Brighton last summer struggled for regular minutes this campaign, making just nine Premier League appearances under head coach Régis Le Bris.
The lack of consistent playing time prompted the 24-year-old to seek a temporary move away in order to get his season back on track.
The talented winger will bolster Monaco’s struggling attack in Ligue 1. Having secured the move, he is now set for his first experience in Ligue 1 and potentially the UEFA Champions League as well.
It is important to note that his limited game time at Sunderland cost him a place in the Ivory Coast squad for the recently concluded AFCON tournament, where the Elephant bowed out at quarterfinals.
