The Frecnh Football Federation has welcomed Medhi Benatia’s appeal against his recent suspension in the French top-flight.

Benatia, a former Morocco international, who currently serve as the Director of Football for giants Marseille was handed a three-month suspension for misconduct.

The former Juventus and Bayern Munich star received a red card in a Coupe de France clash between Marseille and Lille following an altercation with the fourth referee Jérémy Stinat in January 2025.

However, the former Morocco international was handed a three-month suspension from football in France, of which he has already served one-month.

Lille president Olivier Létang, who was also involved in a similar altercation with Stinat was handed just one-month suspension, sparking controversies. Marseille, however, felt aggrieved of the different lengths of time of suspension.

The club then denounced what they perceived as “inconsistency and relentless targeting of its director of football, in a club statement.

In an attempt to overturn the ban, Benatia filled for an appeal, which is being reviewed by the FA, per reports in the French media.

The former Morocco international is hoping for a positive outcome of his appeal as he eyes a swift return to the Marseille team.
