Jean-Philippe Mateta is set to make his comeback for Crystal Palace in the FA Cup against Fulham after recovering from a significant ear injury.
This match marks the French striker of Congolese descent’s first appearance since he sustained the injury in a dangerous tackle by Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts earlier this month.
The incident resulted in Roberts receiving a substantial six-match suspension from the Football Association for his reckless challenge, which was deemed potentially career-threatening .

After news broke of his fitness, Mateta took to Instagram to express his excitement, posting a video with the caption, “It’s time.”
To ensure his protection during the match, he will wear a specialized mask designed to safeguard his ear, which remains vulnerable to further injury if left unprotected .
In an interview with Sky Sports last week, the 27-year-old expressed optimism about his return, which is eagerly anticipated by Palace supporters.
“Hopefully, I can play (against Fulham). Hopefully, you never know. Hopefully, they will see me. I’m in the ground every day. The doctor is the person, he will decide. I will wear a mask, I think so.”
Mateta’s return is a significant boost for manager Oliver Glasner, especially with the FA Cup providing an opportunity for silverware.
If Crystal Palace secures a victory over Fulham, they could advance to the semi-finals, where they may face formidable opponents such as Aston Villa, Manchester City, or Nottingham Forest.
