French-Congolese forward Christopher Nkunku reassured by Maresca as Chelsea plan for key role

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has held crucial discussions with Christopher Nkunku amid uncertainty over the forward’s future at Stamford Bridge.

Nkunku, who is of Congolese descent but represents France at international level, has attracted growing interest from top clubs across Europe as his camp continues to explore options ahead of the new season.

The 27-year-old endured an injury-plagued 2024/25 campaign and is reportedly considering his next move carefully.

According to L’Équipe, Maresca has stepped in directly to make clear Nkunku remains a central part of Chelsea’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

The Italian tactician, appointed earlier this summer, is understood to value the former RB Leipzig attacker’s versatility and finishing ability, and does not want to lose him as he reshapes the squad.

Despite the manager’s reassurances, Nkunku is believed to be unsettled by Chelsea’s summer transfer activity.

The club recently signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, both of whom are viewed as direct competition for the attacking positions Nkunku typically occupies.

The increased competition has led to concerns over playing time in what is expected to be a highly demanding season.

Interest in Nkunku continues to build, with Inter Milan reportedly the latest club to reach out to his representatives.

The Serie A side are monitoring his situation closely and are considering a formal approach should the player become available.

Chelsea are currently in pre-season preparations under Maresca, and Nkunku’s future could be a pivotal storyline in the weeks leading up to the Premier League opener.

While no formal offers have been submitted, the coming days may prove decisive as Chelsea seek to convince Nkunku to stay and fight for his place in West London.
