French international of Cameroonian descent Kylian Mbappe was sent off in Real Madrid’s La Liga clash against Deportivo Alaves on Sunday.
The former Paris Saint Germain star received the marching orders before the half hour mark following a reckless tackle on Alaves Antonio Blanco.
Referee Soto Grado had initially shown Mbappe a yellow card in the 38th-minute before a Video Assistant Referee review led to a straight red card.
Despite being down to ten men for a larger part of the match, the Spanish giants managed to snatch a 1-0 victory over Alaves.
His compatriot Eduardo Camavinga’s strike was enough to secure victory for the visitors.
Meanwhile, Mbappe faces a potential suspension for the reckless challenge on the opponent. He could receive more than a one-match suspension.
The last time Kylian Mbappe earned a red card in club football was in the 2019/2020 season during his spell with PSG. In that instance, during the French Cup match against Rennes, he was sent off in the 118th minute, also for a rough foul.
Overall, this is the fourth red card in Mbappe’s career, his first in Real Madrid’s shirt.
