French-Cameroonian star Kylian Mbappé files harassment complaint against PSG as legal dispute escalates

French-Cameroonian star Kylian Mbappé files harassment complaint against PSG as legal dispute escalates

Kylian Mbappé has filed a formal legal complaint against Paris Saint-Germain, accusing the French club of moral harassment and attempted extortion.

The latest development in a long-running dispute between the player and his former club comes amid an ongoing financial disagreement over a €55 million payment claimed by Mbappé’s camp.

A judicial investigation has been launched in response to the complaint, which was lodged against persons unknown but is understood to be aimed at PSG.

The case has now been assigned to two investigating judges, according to information released by Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Tuesday.

The root of the dispute dates back to 2022, when Mbappé agreed to a much-publicised contract renewal with PSG.

The extension, celebrated with great fanfare and a press event featuring the striker alongside club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, was officially announced as running until 2025.

However, the deal included a crucial clause—an optional third year that would only be activated by mutual agreement.

Mbappé chose not to activate the optional year, leaving the door open for a free transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2024.

While his decision was in line with the terms of the contract, it triggered a bitter fallout behind the scenes.

In 2023, tensions between the player and club escalated sharply. Al-Khelaïfi, angered by what he reportedly perceived as a breach of personal commitment, responded by sidelining Mbappé from the first-team setup during pre-season.

The forward was temporarily excluded from training with the main squad and left out of promotional material and matchday plans, in what Mbappé’s camp has described as retaliatory behaviour aimed at pressuring the player into extending his stay in Paris.

Although the situation appeared to improve after intervention from head coach Luis Enrique—who eventually reinstated Mbappé into the starting line-up—the atmosphere remained strained.

Observers noted that the striker was substituted more frequently than in previous seasons, fuelling speculation that his contract status was influencing on-pitch decisions.

Now fully settled in Madrid following his summer move, Mbappé has chosen not to let the matter rest. By filing a complaint alleging moral harassment and attempted extortion, the 25-year-old is escalating the feud into the legal arena.

Sources close to the player suggest that the complaint is a response to what they consider to be a concerted campaign by PSG to force him into signing a new contract under duress.

The judicial process is still in its early stages, and PSG have not commented publicly on the matter. It remains unclear how the club will respond to the allegations or what implications the investigation may have.

This legal action adds another layer to an already complex and highly public saga. While Mbappé has begun a new chapter at Real Madrid, where he is expected to play a key role in both La Liga and the Champions League, his battle with PSG appears far from over.

As proceedings unfold, the case is likely to draw continued attention both in France and across the footballing world, raising broader questions about player-club relations and the pressures behind high-profile contract negotiations.
