Aurélien Tchouaméni embraces Cameroonian heritage with royal visit

Aurelien Tchouaméni has praised the influence of new Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso, saying the Spanish tactician’s fresh ideas have given his game a new dimension.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who switched from Monaco in 2022, says his focus remains on consistency and helping Los Blancos maintain their dominance in Spain and Europe.

Born in Rouen, France, to Cameroonian parents, Tchouaméni represents the French national team but retains deep ties to his African heritage.

Speaking to Marca, Tchouaméni said he feels revitalised under Alonso: “I’m happy with him, to be honest.

“It’s true that things are going well for me with the coach and that he has new ideas for me and the team, but I think things have gone much better for me since the start of 2025, and I was already feeling good under Carlo.”

He was also keen to stress that he appreciated the work of former boss Carlo Ancelotti: “There are differences between Carlo and Xabi, it’s normal, each one has his own idea and style, but they are two great coaches.”

Since Alonso’s arrival, Madrid have adopted a more dynamic midfield approach, with Tchouaméni playing a pivotal role both in shielding the defence and launching attacks. His blend of physicality and technique has earned praise from pundits across Europe.

Tchouaméni’s comments reflect a growing confidence at the Bernabéu as Madrid push for yet another La Liga and Champions League double.

For the midfielder, the immediate goal is simple: “The idea now is to focus on each game, help my teammates, and continue to grow.”
