Kylian Mbappé has achieved a historic milestone in world football, becoming the only player to win the European Golden Shoe, the World Cup Golden Boot, and the UEFA Champions League Golden Boot.
The French forward secured the latest honour after a prolific debut season with Real Madrid, where he finished as La Liga’s top scorer.
Born to a Cameroonian father and an Algerian mother, Mbappé’s African heritage continues to be a proud part of his identity.
Mbappé earned the European Golden Shoe for the first time in his career after scoring 31 goals in Spain’s top flight during the 2024/25 campaign.
Although Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres netted 39 goals in Portugal, UEFA’s league coefficient system gave Mbappé the edge.
Goals in the top five European leagues, including La Liga, are weighted at two points each, while goals from the Portuguese Primeira Liga are valued at 1.5 points.
As a result, Mbappé finished with 62 points, edging Gyökeres’ 58.5 in the final standings. This triumph not only adds another accolade to Mbappé’s growing collection but also ends a near two-decade wait for a French winner of the award.
The last Frenchman to lift the Golden Shoe was Thierry Henry, who won it consecutively in 2004 and 2005 while playing for Arsenal.
Mbappé’s stellar form this season has underlined his status as one of the world’s most complete forwards, capable of delivering at the highest level across multiple competitions.
