Arsenal defender William Saliba has reaffirmed his commitment to the club amid speculation linking him to Real Madrid.
With two years remaining on his contract, Saliba expressed his happiness at Arsenal and indicated no rush to initiate new contract discussions.
The French international of Cameroonian descent joined the club in 2019 from Saint-Étienne for £27 million.
Initially, he spent time on loan at Saint-Étienne, Nice, and Marseille, gaining valuable experience in Ligue 1.
His performances during these loan spells, particularly with Marseille, where he was named Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year, paved the way for his integration into Arsenal’s first team in the 2022–23 season.
“I want to continue here. Not yet [talks over a new deal], there is no rush. I am happy here. That’s it.”
Saliba also shared his aspirations for success in the UEFA Champions League, emphasizing the team’s ambition to win the prestigious tournament.
“Of course, everyone wants to win the Champions League because it’s a competition that you watch when you are young. You want to win and we know that the competition is really hard to win. We’ll give everything and anything can happen.”
Arsenal are set to host PSV Eindhoven in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, holding a commanding 7-1 aggregate lead.
Saliba emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, saying, “I think we don’t have to think about the last game.
“Tomorrow is important as well and we have to win, even if we beat them 7-1 last week. The game is at home as well and if we win tomorrow, we will have good confidence for the next games.”
