French-Algerian striker Samy Baghdadi attracting interest from Spain’s Deportivo La Coruña

Samy Baghdadi’s standout season in the French third tier has sparked interest from Spain, with Deportivo La Coruña reportedly monitoring the 27-year-old striker ahead of a potential summer move.

Currently leading the line for FC Versailles in the Championnat National, Baghdadi has been a rare bright spot in a struggling campaign for the Parisian outfit.

Despite Versailles flirting with relegation, the French-Algerian forward has delivered an impressive return of 10 goals and six assists—his most productive season to date.

According to reports from Foot Mercato, Baghdadi has caught the attention of Deportivo La Coruña, one of Spanish football’s sleeping giants.

The Galician club, once a major force in La Liga and home to legends such as Rivaldo, Bebeto, and Pauleta, has fallen on hard times in recent years, both on and off the pitch.

Now competing in the lower divisions of Spanish football, Deportivo are rebuilding with an eye toward long-term growth—and Baghdadi could be part of that vision.

While there has been no formal offer tabled yet, Deportivo are said to be seriously tracking Baghdadi’s performances.

The striker’s blend of strength, movement, and composure in front of goal fits the profile of what the Spanish club is seeking: an experienced forward with the hunger to rise with a team on the mend.

Baghdadi, who has one year remaining on his current deal with Versailles, is currently valued at around €250,000 by Transfermarkt.

That valuation makes him an attainable target for clubs seeking value in the transfer market without compromising on impact.

For a player who has largely built his career in the French lower leagues, a move to Spain would represent a significant step up and a fresh challenge.

This season has marked a turning point for Baghdadi, who has often flown under the radar throughout his professional journey.

Known for his all-round game, the forward has demonstrated a growing maturity in front of goal, while also showing the ability to link up play and create chances for his teammates.

His six assists highlight his vision and unselfishness in the final third—attributes that have made him central to Versailles’ attacking threat.

Despite the team’s current standing, Baghdadi’s form has not gone unnoticed. Scouts have regularly been spotted at Versailles matches in recent months, with several clubs—both domestic and international—keeping tabs on his development.

Deportivo, however, appear to be leading the chase, hoping to secure a striker who can play a pivotal role in their quest for promotion.

For Baghdadi, the prospect of joining a club with rich history and passionate support would be a compelling opportunity.

Whether Deportivo formalise their interest in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but all indications suggest that the forward’s future may soon lie outside France.

With just a year left on his contract and his stock on the rise, the summer transfer window could be decisive for both Baghdadi and Versailles, as they prepare for what might be a mutually beneficial departure.
