Hamburg SV have officially completed the signing of French-Algerian striker Rayan Philippe from Eintracht Braunschweig as part of their preparations for the upcoming Bundesliga campaign.
The 24-year-old forward arrives at the Volksparkstadion after a standout season, where he played a pivotal role in Braunschweig’s survival in the German second division.
Philippe’s versatility and attacking prowess made him one of the most influential players at his former club, contributing 14 goals and six assists across 37 appearances in the 2024–25 season.
His ability to operate effectively as a central striker, second striker, or right winger has been a key factor in HSV’s decision to secure his services.
The move is seen as a crucial step in strengthening Hamburg’s attacking options as they return to the Bundesliga determined to make an impact.
“A versatile and mobile attacking player, Rayan fits our expectations perfectly,” said Claus Costa, Hamburg’s sporting director.
“He impresses whether as a centre forward, second striker, or right winger with his speed, depth, and goal threat.
His profile will add variety to our attack and strengthen our transition play, which is vital in the Bundesliga.”
Philippe’s performances last season left a lasting impression on Hamburg, particularly as he netted three goals in two head-to-head encounters against them.
That direct contribution against HSV further justified the club’s decision to push for his signing this summer.
After successfully completing his medical on July 1, Philippe joined the team for pre-season training and was handed the number 14 shirt.
The former France U20 international, who also holds Algerian nationality, expressed his excitement about the move and his ambitions for the future.
“I am very happy to have arrived at HSV and eager to get to know the team and the staff,” Philippe said. “I’m already looking forward to playing our first home game in front of our supporters.
I’ve experienced the atmosphere at the Volksparkstadion before, and now I can’t wait to be part of it. HSV has a great history and is back in the Bundesliga, which I’m extremely pleased about.
I want to show that both the team and I have the qualities to be competitive and successful in this league.”
Stefan Kuntz, a member of HSV’s board of directors, also praised the acquisition, highlighting Philippe’s development and readiness for top-flight football.
“Rayan has been a top-class player at Braunschweig, and this past season, he played a crucial role in their survival.
His profile is promising, and we’ve followed his progress closely. He has shown his qualities in the second division, and we are thrilled that he now wants to take the next step with HSV,” Kuntz remarked.
Philippe’s arrival marks a statement of intent from Hamburg, who are eager to reinforce their squad with players who are not only familiar with the rigours of German football but also capable of adapting quickly to the demands of the Bundesliga.
For the French-Algerian forward, this transfer represents a significant milestone — a chance to prove himself at the highest level of German football and help HSV achieve its goals in the top flight.
With the backing of the club’s management and a fanbase he already knows well, Philippe is ready to embark on the next chapter of his career in Hamburg colours.
