Rayan Cherki has described Manchester City as the biggest club in Europe and says he cannot wait to work under manager Pep Guardiola after completing his move from Lyon.
The 21-year-old, who is of Algerian descent, finalised his switch to the Premier League champions on Tuesday and was unveiled by the club shortly after.
Speaking to City’s official media, Cherki expressed his excitement over the opportunity to join a team he has admired for its style and success under Guardiola.
“I’m very excited to play for Manchester City. It’s the biggest club in Europe,” said the French midfielder, who became one of Ligue 1’s most talked-about prospects during his time at Lyon.
“I love the style of play, it’s very important for me. It’s my choice and I think it’s the best choice for my career because Manchester City are the best for me.”
Cherki, known for his flair and technical creativity, highlighted the chance to play for Guardiola as a major influence in his decision.
“For me, he’s the best coach in the world and I think he’s the best coach in history. I am passionate to play for him!”
The attacking midfielder, who prefers playing behind the striker, added that he is open to being deployed in any role that benefits the team.
“I prefer to play No.10 but right now I just want to play. Where I am on the pitch is not important, I just want to be on the pitch and help the team to win. I am ready.”
