Rayan Cherki says he has “no limits” as he sets his sights on making a name for himself at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.
The 21-year-old, who is of Algerian descent, joined the Premier League champions from Olympique Lyonnais last month and is already eyeing a permanent place in Guardiola’s star-studded lineup. He caught the eye with his performances during the Club World Cup and is now determined to build on that momentum.
In an interview with City Magazine, Cherki spoke confidently about his ambitions and playing style.
“My style is easy. I love to play with the ball; to do skills and I love to help my teammates,” he said. “I am here to make people happy and this is very important to me.”
While the creative midfielder prefers operating as a No.10, he insists he is willing to play anywhere to contribute.
“Right now I just want to play. Where I am on the pitch is not important, I just want to help the team win.”
Cherki, capped at youth level by France, also expressed his admiration for English football.
“I see all the time the games in the Premier League and for me, the Premier League is the best league in the world,” he added.
Having come through the ranks at Lyon, Cherki is considered one of the most technically gifted young midfielders in Europe.
As he begins his new chapter in England, Cherki’s focus is on proving himself and reaching the very top.
“I’m following my plan, and I hope to achieve my goals one day. The higher the ambitions, the more you feel obligated to work hard to reach them,” he said.
