French-Algerian forward Rayan Cherki has opened up about his imminent move to English Premier League side Manchester City.
Speaking to French broadcaster Téléfoot, the 21-year-old Lyon star hinted strongly at the move.
“Yes, it will happen. You know my answer, everyone knows it. We still have one game to play. But after that, it’s all over,” Cherki said.
While no official announcement has been made, Cherki’s comments leave little doubt that a deal is close.
Manchester City has reportedly been leading the race for weeks and recently submitted an initial offer of €22.5 million, according to L’Équipe.
However, Lyon are said to be holding out for a figure between €35 and €40 million.
Manchester City are expected to return with an improved offer as they look to wrap up the transfer before the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
Rayan Cherki, whose contract with Lyon runs until 2026, has expressed his desire to leave the club where he rose through the ranks.
Despite long-standing interest from Borussia Dortmund, the German side is unlikely to match Lyon’s asking price due to budget constraints.
Manchester City are confident that Cherki will provide a major squad boost for the team once he is signed.
