Standard Liège Held to 2-2 Draw by Racing Genk in Belgian League Playoffs
Standard Liège maintained their lead in the Belgian league playoffs despite being held to a 2-2 draw against Racing Genk on Sunday. The match proved to be a challenging one for the Rouches, who played much of the game with 10 men.
Genk struck early, with Jelle Vossen scoring in the 7th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. However, Standard responded just before halftime. Frédéric Bulot, the new Gabonese international, capitalized on a pass from Michy Batshuayi to equalize.
After the break, Batshuayi turned provider again, setting up Bulot to give Standard a 2-1 lead. But Genk would not give up easily. In the dying moments of the match, Joren Schrijvers netted the equalizer to salvage a point for his side.
Despite the draw, Standard Liège remains at the top of the playoff standings with 38 points after three rounds of play. Zulte Waregem and Anderlecht follow closely behind with 36 and 35 points, respectively, setting the stage for an exciting finish to the playoffs.
