Franz-Ethan Meichtry: Wolfsburg linked with move for FC Thun midfielder

Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are being linked with a move for FC Thun’s young central midfielder Franz-Ethan Meichtry.

The 20-year-old, who holds Swiss and Cameroonian nationality, is currently valued at €3.00m and plays in the Swiss Super League for Thun. Transfermarkt lists the rumour of a switch from the Swiss club to Wolfsburg as active as of 14 May 2026, though the probability of the transfer is currently marked as “?”.

Meichtry, born on 8 July 2005, has emerged as one of Thun’s most promising prospects, operating primarily as a central midfielder and wearing the number 77 shirt. Standing at 1.86m and right-footed, he has been used in the heart of midfield, where his height and physical presence have become key assets for the Super League side.

The player’s contract situation at Thun is unclear, with no expiry date listed, which has fuelled talk that he could become available at a relatively modest fee compared with his €3.00m market valuation – or potentially be in a position to negotiate as a free agent if his deal is nearing its end or already run down. That status is likely to be closely monitored by Wolfsburg as they weigh up whether to move.

Meichtry’s recent outings for Thun in the Swiss top flight have underlined his growing importance, featuring in central areas as the club look to consolidate their position in the Super League. FC Thun are also listed as his “national team” side on Transfermarkt, highlighting that he is yet to break through at senior international level for either Switzerland or Cameroon.

With Wolfsburg tracking emerging talent across Europe and Meichtry continuing his development in Switzerland, a move to the Bundesliga would represent a significant next step and could prove pivotal in shaping his future profile and potential on the European stage if it materialises.
