French coach Franck Dumas has been named as the new manager of Egyptian Premier League side Modern Sport, marking his return to African football after a brief hiatus.
The Cairo-based club confirmed his appointment on social media, stating simply, “We welcome our new French coach, Franck Dumas.”
The 56-year-old arrives with a wealth of experience, having managed several prominent clubs across North Africa and the African continent.
Dumas, a former standout player for Stade Malherbe de Caen, also enjoyed notable spells with AS Monaco, Marseille, and Newcastle United during his playing career.
His move to Egypt comes after a period of managerial inactivity following his departure from Algerian club ES Sétif in February.
The Frenchman has carved out a solid reputation as a coach in Africa since 2014, taking charge of several distinguished sides.
His stints include managing Maghreb de Fès in Morocco and Algeria’s JS Kabylie, where he honed his tactical acumen and understanding of African football dynamics.
His most successful spells came with CR Belouizdad in Algeria, where he secured the Algerian Ligue 1 title and the Super Cup, and TP Mazembe of DR Congo, leading them to a domestic championship triumph.
These achievements established him as a reliable figure capable of delivering silverware on the continent.
Dumas’ appointment signals Modern Sport’s ambition to compete at the highest level of Egyptian football.
The club, which continues to solidify its place in the Premier League, will hope his experience and proven track record in African leagues can inspire a successful campaign.
Despite previous off-field disputes with French tax authorities earlier in his career, Dumas has remained focused on developing his managerial career, particularly in Africa, where he has enjoyed significant success.
Modern Sport supporters will now look to the experienced tactician to bring stability and fresh ideas as they aim to rise further in Egypt’s competitive football landscape.
With Dumas’ history of winning titles and transforming teams, the club will be optimistic about its prospects under his leadership.
As the Frenchman takes charge of his new challenge, all eyes will be on his ability to replicate past successes and guide Modern Sport to new heights in Egyptian football.
