Franco-Senegalese trainer Habib Beye vows to forge a dominant Marseille as new era begins
Franco-Senegalese tactician Habib Beye has vowed to forge a dominant Marseille team after securing a move to the club.
After weeks of uncertainty and internal turbulence, Marseille have confirmed Beye as their new manager, replacing Italian gaffer Roberto De Zerbi.
Beye faces an immediate and demanding challenge. Marseille’s objectives for the remainder of the season are clear: secure a place in the UEFA Champions League and lift the Coupe de France.
Time, however, is not on his side, as he gears up for his first game in the French Ligue 1 against Brest on Friday.
“I think that when you have these kinds of players with the quality that they possess, we need to strive to be a team that is vertical and dominant,” Beye said. “There has been good work done before by Roberto De Zerbi, but it came with both positive and negative fluctuations.”
The 46-year-old was careful not to criticize his predecessor, instead focusing on the identity he wants his Marseille side to embody.
“I’m not here to judge what came before,” he added. “But what is certain is that the football has to reflect what this city is and what the stadium generates. The supporters are lovers of OM and lovers of football. We have to understand the identity of the club, its values, and what the club and the city exude. Maybe I have a head start in that respect.”
With expectations sky-high and little room for error, Beye’s tenure begins under intense scrutiny. His promise of a dominant, attacking Marseille may resonate strongly with supporters—but delivering results quickly will be the true test of his new era at the Vélodrome.
