Queens Park Rangers have pinpointed Montpellier’s teenage talent Khalil Fayad as a potential addition to their roster ahead of the 2025/26 season, according to exclusive information.
The 20-year-old Franco-Moroccan has emerged as one of Montpellier HSC’s most promising young midfielders.
Known for his technical skill, vision and adaptability, Fayad has attracted attention from clubs across Europe, including FC Utrecht in the Netherlands and several French and British sides.
QPR have recently joined that list, with the London-based Championship outfit actively assessing the midfielder as they aim to reinforce their promotion push.
Born in Montpellier on 9 June 2004, Fayad can play both as a deep-lying playmaker and in a more advanced attacking role. Montpellier integrated him into their first team in the 2023/24 season, where he featured in 23 Ligue 1 matches, scoring three goals and notching one assist.
He also made two appearances in the Coupe de France. That debut season confirmed his potential and offered a glimpse of his toolbox: passing range, spatial awareness and composure under pressure.
During the 2024/25 campaign, Fayad made 17 appearances across competitions, adding up to 781 playing minutes. While he didn’t find the back of the net or register an assist, he demonstrated consistent effort and defensive focus. His disciplinary record includes four yellow cards and one red, reflecting a growing competitive edge.
QPR’s interest in the midfielder comes at a moment when the club is rebuilding under a strategy focused on youth and potential.
After a season of near-misses in their bid for a Premier League return, the Rangers are keen to inject fresh energy into their midfield. Fayad’s profile, technically proficient, multi-positional and hungry to develop, fits seamlessly with the club’s vision.
Sources suggest that QPR are preparing to initiate contact with Montpellier, gauging both the player’s interest and the club’s asking price.
With several suitors in the mix, Montpellier are expected to seek a competitive fee for their academy product, whose contract runs beyond the summer window.
Despite interest from FC Utrecht, QPR see themselves as a stronger destination for Fayad’s next phase. The English Championship offers high tempo, physical intensity and a platform for rigorous development. Should the transfer materialise, Fayad would likely play a key role in QPR’s pre-season build-up and be gradually integrated into the first team.
Montpellier’s sporting director is also monitoring the situation. Rather than block Fayad’s departure outright, the Ligue 1 club may view a sale as an opportunity to reinvest in both talent and infrastructure.
QPR would need to present a solid proposal covering transfer fee, wages and a development plan to convince all stakeholders.
For Fayad himself, this period marks a pivotal career decision. Remaining in France might have seen more appearances and deeper embedding in Ligue 1, but the shift to English football could accelerate his growth, exposure and ambition. At 20 years old, with European interest already emerging, the midfielder stands at an important crossroads.
As the summer transfer window accelerates, Fayad’s future will depend on negotiations between Montpellier and QPR, his desire for fresh challenges and the ability of all parties to agree on terms. If a deal is struck, QPR could be welcoming a creative and versatile midfielder capable of shaping their push for Premier League promotion.
