Yaya Sanogo has signed with Brazilian Serie B outfit Amazonas FC, marking a surprising new chapter in the career of the Franco-Ivorian striker.
At 32, Sanogo, who has previously turned out for the likes of Arsenal, Ajax, Crystal Palace and Toulouse, has opted to continue his professional journey in South America.
The deal, confirmed by local media, sees him join the Manaus-based club on a contract that runs until January 2026.
Sanogo arrives at Amazonas FC following a productive stint in China with QD Red Lions, where he found the back of the net seven times and registered one assist in 19 appearances.
His performances in the Chinese lower leagues appear to have reignited interest in the striker, who has been searching for stability after a career marked by promise, injury setbacks, and multiple short-term spells.
The Brazilian side, currently struggling in the early stages of the Serie B season, is hoping Sanogo’s presence can inject much-needed experience and firepower into their squad.
Amazonas FC have endured a difficult start to their campaign, managing just one point from their opening three matches, and scoring goals has been a particular challenge.
Club officials reportedly view Sanogo as a player who can offer immediate impact on the pitch while also acting as a mentor to the squad’s younger players.
His signing is seen as a strategic move to balance the youthful core of the team with veteran leadership.
Sanogo’s journey to Brazil is an unusual one for a European-trained striker with his background. A former France U21 international, he rose to prominence at Auxerre before earning a move to Premier League giants Arsenal in 2013.
Despite scoring four goals in one Champions League match during his time in London, consistency proved elusive, and he spent several loan spells away from the Emirates, including stints at Crystal Palace and Ajax.
After leaving Arsenal, Sanogo returned to France with Toulouse but once again found sustained form hard to come by.
Following a period without a club, he briefly joined Huddersfield Town in the English Championship before testing himself in China.
Now, with Amazonas FC offering a fresh opportunity in a completely different footballing environment, Sanogo is set to become one of the rare European-trained strikers to ply their trade in Brazil’s second division.
The move reflects both his desire to keep playing at a competitive level and Amazonas’ urgent need for attacking reinforcement.
While expectations will be tempered by his recent career trajectory, the club is hopeful that the striker’s past experiences at the highest levels of European football will translate into leadership and productivity in the Brazilian league.
If Sanogo can replicate the goal-scoring form he showed in China, his signing could yet prove a turning point for Amazonas FC’s fortunes this season.
For the player himself, this marks yet another twist in a career that continues to defy convention.
