Franco-Ivorian midfielder Yoann Cissé joins Charleroi on free transfer

Franco-Ivorian midfielder Yoann Cissé joins Charleroi on free transfer

Charleroi have officially confirmed the signing of Franco-Ivorian midfielder Yoann Cissé following the expiry of his contract with AJ Auxerre.

The 20-year-old left-sided player has committed to the Belgian side until June 2026, with the option of a one-year extension.

Upon completing the move, Cissé was immediately integrated into Charleroi’s reserve side, the Zebra Elites, as he begins the next phase of his development in Belgium.

Cissé’s decision to join Charleroi brings an end to his time in France, where he spent the 2024/25 season with Auxerre, making 20 appearances across all competitions.

He recorded five goals and three assists during the campaign — numbers that reflect a promising young talent still in the early stages of his career.

The move was officially announced on Charleroi’s social media channels, with the club expressing enthusiasm about the midfielder’s arrival.

Though initially registered with the reserve squad, Cissé is expected to compete for first-team consideration over the coming seasons, depending on his adaptation and performance.

Born in France to Ivorian heritage, Cissé is a product of the FC Lorient youth academy, where he progressed through the U19 ranks before making the switch to Auxerre.

His versatility and pace down the left flank, combined with his goal contributions, have marked him as one to watch among his generation of players.

Charleroi’s acquisition of Cissé aligns with their strategy of recruiting and nurturing young talent, particularly those with international backgrounds and technical profiles suited to the Belgian league.

The club has built a reputation in recent years for providing a platform for emerging players to grow and eventually make the leap to more competitive European leagues.

Cissé’s new deal, which runs through to mid-2026 with an additional year option, gives both the player and club flexibility as they evaluate his development.

While the immediate focus will be on his progress within the Zebra Elites, strong performances could pave the way for a first-team breakthrough.

The young midfielder will now be looking to settle into his new environment and establish himself within Charleroi’s system.

His prior experience in French football and exposure to competitive matches at Auxerre will be crucial as he seeks to adapt to the demands of the Belgian Pro League setup.

For Charleroi, the signing is another statement of intent as they continue to invest in future prospects. With Yoann Cissé now officially on board, attention turns to how quickly he can make an impact and begin pushing for senior appearances.

The club has yet to reveal whether Cissé will be involved in the early stages of the upcoming campaign, but with pre-season preparations underway, he will have an immediate opportunity to impress coaching staff and stake his claim for advancement.
