Franco-Congolese defender Axel Disasi opens up on failed move to AS Monaco

France international of DR Congo descent Axel Disasi has opened up on his failed move to French Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco in the recently concluded summer transfer window.

Disasi, who is in the books of Chelsea was linked with a move away from the club throughout the summer, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old returned to the Premier league giants after a permanent acquisition to Aston Villa fell through.

Chelsea looked to offload the defender, who appears not be in the plans of manager Enzo Maresca before the closure of the transfer window, but ultimately failed secure a move away from the team.

Disasi was on the radar of a couple of clubs including West Ham United, Bournemouth and Monaco, but a move fell through.

However, Disasi has revealed his desperation to return to the Principality club during the summer window.

“In the period between the approaches from Bournemouth and West Ham, Monaco arrived and that hit me emotionally. I had three incredible years at Monaco. When they came in, all the memories came back. Monaco is home,” began the Chelsea centre-back.

“I hoped that Chelsea would find a solution to allow me to leave on loan […] I pushed until the last minute to go to Monaco!”

Chelsea could not send any more players out on loan, having maxed out their quota, and the Principality club could only do a loan deal.
