Franco-Algerian star Rayan Cherki called up to French olympic team

Thierry Henry, the coach of the French Under-23 squad, extended the invitation to Cherki as a necessity. The call-up comes in response to the unavailability of six players whose clubs did not release them for the tournament.

The missing players include Paris Saint-Germain duo Warren Zaïre-Emery and Bradley Barcola, as well as Lille trio Bafodé Diakité, Lucas Chevalier, and Leny Yoro, alongside Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel.

Cherki is set to join the preparatory training camp for the Paris 2024 Olympics at the Clairefontaine training center on Sunday, June 16.

This is not the first time Cherki has faced challenges with the French Under-23 team.

Coach Thierry Henry previously overlooked him during the last international break.

Despite this, Cherki has been called up urgently to fill in for one of the unavailable players
