Despite interest from several major European clubs, including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Chelsea, Franck Ribéry continues to play for Bayern Munich. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the president of the German club, revealed that they received a substantial offer from Chelsea but chose to reject it.
“We also had an offer from Chelsea on the table; it was crazy for the time,” stated Rummenigge in an interview with the newspaper TZ. He emphasized the decision to turn down the offer, asserting that it was the right choice. According to Rummenigge, this decision reinforced Bayern Munich’s identity as a club that prioritizes buying over selling, aligning them with other top clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The steadfast approach in retaining their key players seems to have paid off, considering Ribéry’s instrumental role in Bayern Munich’s impressive achievements, including the magnificent quintuplet last year.
