Francis Onyeka doubtful for Elversberg against Schalke

SV Elversberg are sweating over the availability of Francis Onyeka ahead of Sunday’s away match against FC Schalke 04.

The 19-year-old attacker suffered a head injury during last weekend’s 2-1 defeat by Bayern Munich after an early collision, forcing him to leave the field within minutes.

Onyeka’s inclusion in the matchday squad remains uncertain, while his chances of starting at the Veltins-Arena appear especially slim. Elversberg coach Vincent Wagner gave a cautious update when asked about the youngster’s condition.

“He is managing. It was quite a knock,” Wagner said. He also made clear that the player’s health would come before any pressure to return quickly.

If Onyeka is unavailable or begins the match on the bench, Elversberg have several alternatives. Noah Darvich is the most obvious replacement after coming on for Onyeka against Bayern and could start in the attacking midfield position.

Maurice Krattenmacher is another option. The versatile substitute can operate centrally or on the left, giving Wagner tactical flexibility as he prepares his team for a demanding fixture.

Elversberg will assess Onyeka’s condition during the final training sessions before deciding whether he can travel, feature as a substitute or sit out entirely. The priority remains ensuring the promising forward makes a safe recovery.
