Macclesfield Town assistant manager Francis Jeffers has lifted the lid on a heated half-time confrontation between Marc Guehi and Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner during the holders’ dramatic FA Cup exit earlier this season.
The non-league side stunned Crystal Palace in the third round, producing one of the competition’s biggest shocks and ending the London club’s defence of the FA Cup.
According to Jeffers, tensions boiled over in the tunnel at the interval, with Guehi and Glasner engaged in an intense exchange as frustration mounted.
Speaking on the Wayne Rooney Show, Jeffers admitted he may have been revealing more than intended but described a clear edge to the confrontation.
He said he walked past the pair as they argued and sensed the emotional temperature had risen sharply.
The former Premier League striker used the moment to motivate his own players, telling them their performance had unsettled the opposition.
“I will say it and I don’t know if I should be saying it but Marc Guehi and Glasner going at it in the tunnel.
“It was at half-time and they were going at it, I walked past them and was like, there is an edge to that.
”I told my lads that you see, you have clearly rattled them.”
The defeat proved to be a turning point in more ways than one. Within weeks, Guehi completed a high-profile move to Manchester City, bringing his time at Palace to an end.
Glasner, meanwhile, has confirmed he will step down when his contract expires in June, signalling a broader period of transition at Selhurst Park.
For Macclesfield, the result remains a landmark achievement, underlining the unpredictability that defines English football’s oldest knockout competition.
