Gianelli Imbula: “My Goal is Les Bleus”
When it comes to his international future, Gianelli Imbula is crystal clear — he wants to play for France, not Belgium.
Speaking at a press conference, the 22-year-old Olympique de Marseille midfielder addressed recent rumors linking him to a potential call-up from the Belgian national team. “I haven’t had a call from Belgium. Would that interest me? No,” he stated bluntly. “But it’s flattering to know that a national team is interested in you. My goal is Les Bleus.”
Despite being born in Vilvoorde, Belgium, on September 12, 1992, Imbula identifies strongly with France, where he was raised — specifically in Argenteuil (Val-d’Oise). Of Congolese descent, Imbula has emerged as one of the promising midfield talents in Ligue 1 and continues to aim for a spot with Didier Deschamps’ French national team.
