Yann M’Vila on a Mission of Redemption at Inter Milan
Yann M’Vila is determined to rebuild what was once a promising international career. The French midfielder, once seen as a future star, has been working to turn the page on the infamous 2012 U21 incident that led to his suspension from all national teams until June 30, 2014.
The fallout from that nighttime outing during a youth training camp was severe—damaging both his reputation and his standing in French football. After moving to Rubin Kazan in Russia, M’Vila faded from the limelight, but perhaps that was what he needed most: time and distance.
Now 24 years old, M’Vila has been loaned to Inter Milan this summer, a move that could mark the start of a second chance. His performances in training and on the pitch are already drawing praise.
“We only judge the athlete, not the human being. He has a very good state of mind when he plays,” said Benoît Cauet, a member of Inter’s youth coaching staff, to 20 Minutes. “He is good when we call on him, we feel he is very involved on the pitch.”
Even Walter Mazzarri, Inter’s first-team coach, is taking notice, with M’Vila expected to feature in the Europa League clash against AS Saint-Étienne.
While M’Vila continues to avoid French media, his football is beginning to speak for him again. His story is no longer one of scandal, but of resilience—and possibly, redemption.
