After a prolonged spell in the lower divisions, FC Metz has finally secured its return to the top flight. The ascent was eagerly anticipated and has now been confirmed. Winning the Ligue 2 championship title would be the cherry on top.
Leading the Ligue 2 table, FC Metz secured their promotion to Ligue 1 with four matches remaining by defeating Auxerre on Saturday (0-3). The Garnets have mathematically secured their place in Ligue 1 next season! With a 14-point lead over Nancy, who is third, and a 15-point lead over Caen, who is fourth with two games in hand, Metz is assured of finishing at least in the top three by the end of the 38th matchday. This is a remarkable achievement for the club from Lorraine, which was promoted from the National league to Ligue 2 last season and has now climbed two divisions in just two years.
“This is the reward for a significant project initiated by President Bernard Seurin,” expressed Albert Cartier, the coach of FC Metz. “I am thrilled for this club, which has endured hardships but is now returning to the highest echelons of football. We will continue to fight for the Ligue 2 championship title.” FC Metz last competed in Ligue 1 during the 2007/2008 season.
