France legend slams Lamine Yamal

French football legend Christophe Dugarry has criticised Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal following the club’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final elimination at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona bowed out after a 3-2 aggregate defeat, despite securing a 2-1 victory at the Metropolitano in the second leg. Their earlier 2-0 loss at Camp Nou ultimately proved decisive, ending their European campaign.

Dugarry, a former Barcelona player, did not hold back in his criticism of the teenage star, suggesting Yamal’s influence on the pitch falls short of the attention he attracts off it. He pointed to the winger’s early goal in the tie but questioned his overall contribution across the two legs.

Speaking to RMC, Dugarry said, “If you’re going to talk so much, make sure your team is capable of winning. What world are you living in, kid? In fact, you’re not doing anything.”

He went further in his remarks, as quoted by Sport, adding: “He scored against Atletico in the fourth minute. And then? He showed that he is not of the Ballon d’Or calibre. Dembele (the Paris Saint-Germain star) would certainly have scored more goals.”

The 1998 World Cup winner acknowledged Yamal’s talent but insisted the youngster remains far from the elite level required to dominate on Europe’s biggest stage.

“Lamine had his moment of glory, nothing more. He is clearly talented, but he is far from being among the best in the world,” he said.

Dugarry also argued that Barcelona lacked a true leader in the tie, questioning whether the team deserved to progress based on their overall performance. He was particularly critical of Yamal’s attitude, claiming the winger displays “excessive arrogance.”

The Frenchman has previously voiced concerns about Yamal’s off-field conduct, maintaining that the young star must mature if he is to reach the next level and help restore Barcelona to the summit of European football.
