Rennes Stuns PSG in 2-1 Victory at Parc des Princes
Paris Saint-Germain’s celebrations were spoiled by a determined Rennes side, as the Breton club pulled off an unexpected 2-1 win at the Parc des Princes. Although PSG had already been crowned champions prior to the match, they were eager to secure a victory in front of their home fans, but Rennes had other plans.
The match began in dramatic fashion, with PSG taking the lead just one minute into the game. Ezequiel Lavezzi capitalized on a lapse in Rennes’ defense to open the scoring, beating goalkeeper Benoît Costil. However, Rennes quickly regrouped and found their equalizer through Foued Kadir, who leveled the score.
Just before the break, Paul-Georges Ntep gave Rennes the lead with a stunning direct free kick, sending the traveling supporters into raptures.
In the second half, PSG, despite pressing hard for an equalizer, could not find a way past the resolute Rennes defense. The introduction of Zlatan Ibrahimović, returning from a six-week injury layoff, failed to spark the Parisians into action. Rennes held firm to secure a famous 2-1 victory, much to the delight of their players and fans.
While PSG had already sealed the league title, the result was a major upset, and Rennes will be pleased with their valuable three points as they battle to secure their place in the league.
