France-born defender Soumaïla Coulibaly opens up on international future amid Mali links

France-born defender Soumaïla Coulibaly has opened up about his international future after being linked with the Mali national team.

Despite featuring for France youth national teams, the 21-year-old, who currently plies his trade for Brest remains eligible to represent Mali. Coulibaly has racked up eight appearances for France U16, U17 and U20 respectively.

The talented defender has, however, opened up about his international future as he is yet to be handed an invite to the France senior team.

Since 2023, Coulibaly has not been called up in any of the national teams, sparking concerns about his future with the French national team.

The talented defender was in action when Brest succumbed to Real Madrid in the Champions League final group games.

And speaking after the game, Coulibaly disclosed he has not been contacted by Mali over a possible switch.

“No, I have not received any contact yet, and no one has talked to me about it”. He said.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old defender expressed his desire to represent the national team of his native country if he receives any official invitation from the Federation. “Am I tempted to play for my money?” Why not?”.
