President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, is set to hold a high-level meeting on Friday with representatives from first and second division clubs, as well as officials from the Professional League, to lay out strategic plans for the upcoming 2025/26 football season.
The meeting comes at a critical time, with Morocco’s football calendar expected to be heavily congested due to several key international and continental tournaments.
At the heart of the discussions will be the formulation of a clear roadmap for both the league and the Throne Cup competitions.
The 2025/26 season coincides with a series of major events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Morocco will host between December and January.
Additional commitments include the Arab Championship for national teams in November and December, and the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals in Kenya, where the Atlas Lions are also expected to compete.
These international engagements are set to cause prolonged interruptions in the domestic league schedule. To mitigate this, the FRMF is considering an early start to the new season, aiming for a conclusion by May 2025.
This would give Moroccan clubs and the national team ample time to prepare for the FIFA World Cup in the United States.
Another key item on the agenda is the scheduling of the Throne Cup final for the current season, which is now at the quarter-final stage. The outcome will determine Morocco’s second representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, joining Wydad Casablanca, who secured third place in the league standings.
