Fouzi Lekjaa reveals reason behind Morocco’s rise in world football

Morocco’s remarkable rise in world football has been described as the product of a long-term vision rather than a sudden breakthrough, according to Moroccan Football Federation president Fouzi Lekjaa.

Speaking in an interview with Onze Mondial, Lekjaa reflected on the national team’s transformation from 90th in the FIFA rankings to a place among the world’s elite top 10, attributing the progress to structure, discipline, and a deeply rooted educational philosophy.

Beyond the visible investments in elite infrastructure and the strong coordination between the federation, coaches, and domestic clubs, Lekjaa insisted that Morocco’s success is anchored in values instilled from the grassroots.

“Beyond football, these youngsters receive a strong education. Fair play, tolerance and respect are at the centre of our project,” he said.

His remarks underline a broader strategy that goes beyond tactical development and facilities, focusing instead on shaping well-rounded individuals capable of thriving both on and off the pitch.

Over the past decade, Morocco has emerged as one of Africa’s most consistent football nations, reaching new heights on the international stage and earning global respect for its structured approach to talent development.

Lekjaa’s comments reinforce the idea that Morocco’s ascent is not accidental, but the result of a deliberate, multi-layered project built on discipline, education, and long-term planning.
