President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has expressed strong confidence in Fouzi Lekjaa’s ability to step into his role if the need arises, describing the Moroccan football leader as a capable and trusted deputy.
Lekjaa, who currently heads the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, was officially appointed CAF’s 1st Vice President during a meeting held in Accra over the weekend. Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Okraku, was also named 2nd Vice President.
Addressing the media, Dr. Motsepe, a renowned South African business magnate, praised Lekjaa for his proven leadership and commitment to African football.
“I am very proud to have Fouzi Lekjaa as my first vice president. Among all the members of the Executive Committee, he has proven his competence in managing major issues,” Motsepe said.
He went on to describe Lekjaa as a passionate advocate for the development of African football.
“Lekjaa has shown that he is jealous for the interests and development of football in Africa, and I do not see anyone who deserves his place (first vice president of CAF) besides me.”
Motsepe further emphasized Lekjaa’s readiness to lead in unforeseen circumstances: “I believe he has the leadership genes to take my place in an emergency. He has the ability to manage the affairs of a game with 54 federations. He has proven that and is a great addition to the Executive Committee,” he added.
