Fouzi Lekjaa calls for collective effort as Morocco prepares for the 2030 World Cup
FRMF president says coordinated planning will be key to delivering the global tournament
Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) president Fouzi Lekjaa has called for a united approach to preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, describing the tournament as a strategic national project that reflects the long-term vision of King Mohammed VI.
Speaking during a meeting of the FRMF Steering Committee in Salé on Thursday, Lekjaa urged football stakeholders to work together to ensure Morocco is fully prepared to co-host the tournament alongside Spain and Portugal.
According to a statement published by the FRMF, the federation president stressed that careful planning, coordination and sustained commitment would be essential as preparations continue for one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
Morocco preparing for global spotlight
Lekjaa told members of the Steering Committee that Morocco’s role as one of the three host nations places the country under international attention and requires thorough preparation at every stage of the project.
He said the World Cup should be approached through collective reflection and coordinated action involving all parties responsible for delivering the tournament.
The FRMF statement added that preparations for the competition will be carried out under the supervision of the Morocco 2030 Foundation in partnership with the national federation.
According to the federation, this collaboration is intended to strengthen coordination between the two organisations while ensuring the successful delivery of the tournament through continuous cooperation and the exchange of expertise.
Leagues urged to modernise
Lekjaa also encouraged Morocco’s National Leagues to adapt their working methods in preparation for the years leading up to the competition.
He said the leagues should modernise their operations and align their activities with the demands of the next phase of Moroccan football’s development.
The federation president added that the domestic football structures should become active participants in the organisation of the tournament, both before and after 2030.
According to the FRMF statement, Lekjaa believes that involving every level of Moroccan football will contribute not only to the successful hosting of the World Cup but also to strengthening the country’s standing within African and international football.
Long-term vision
The 2030 FIFA World Cup represents one of the largest sporting projects undertaken by Morocco, with the country set to share hosting responsibilities with Spain and Portugal.
During the Steering Committee meeting, Lekjaa reiterated that preparations should extend beyond infrastructure and logistics, requiring cooperation across the entire football ecosystem.
He emphasised the importance of sustained planning and effective coordination throughout every stage of the process to meet the expectations associated with hosting a global tournament.
The FRMF said the partnership between the federation and the Morocco 2030 Foundation will play a central role in overseeing those preparations while maintaining close collaboration between the organisations involved.
As planning continues, Lekjaa called on all football stakeholders to contribute to the project, describing collective mobilisation as an important element in achieving the objectives linked to the 2030 FIFA World Cup and strengthening Morocco’s influence on the international football stage.
