Former West Ham United chief scout Mick Brown has suggested that Mohammed Kudus is likely to leave the club this summer.
Despite signing a five-year contract with an option for an additional year in August 2023, the Ghanaian international has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea, aiming to bolster Enzo Maresca’s squad, have recently secured deals for Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens, but are reportedly keen to continue strengthening their team.
Brown, who brings extensive experience from over a decade of scouting at Manchester United during their most successful era, expressed doubts that Kudus will stay at the London Stadium.
“It looks like Kudus will be leaving West Ham,” Brown told Football Insider.
“There’s been a lot of interest in him, but clubs won’t pay £80 million. They’ll negotiate a lower fee, which West Ham may accept because it’s still significant money.”
He added, “I have concerns about his consistency as he didn’t have the best season, but these clubs believe they can unlock his potential.”
Brown noted that both Chelsea and Tottenham are pursuing Kudus.
“Chelsea seem ready to spend freely. They’ve agreed deals for Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens but are not stopping there. Kudus has supporters at Stamford Bridge who want more attacking options.”
He concluded, “Despite my reservations, these clubs clearly value his talent if they can harness it.”
Kudus scored 14 goals and provided six assists in his debut Premier League season but managed only five goals across all competitions last season. Currently, the 24-year-old is on holiday in Ghana.
