Former Werder Bremen star Martin Harnik rallies behind Victor Boniface despite goal drought
Former Werder Bremen star Martin Harnik has thrown full support behind Nigeria international Victor Boniface despite not finding the net for the club.
Boniface, who joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, has yet to find the back of the net.
Despite the goal drought, the former Germany international remain confident in the Nigerian’s ability to make an impact, likening his situation to Max Kruse.
“For me, he’s a character you have to let do his own thing. Much like Max Kruse back then, he needs as much freedom as possible,” Harnik said.
“If you let him off the leash, then I believe he’s a truly creative player with a lot of joy in the game and will help the team.”
Since joining the German outfit in the summer, the 24-year-old has made nine appearances across competitions, but is yet to score or assist a goal.
