Ahmed Musa has resumed training with Kano Pillars following his return from a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, as the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) side prepares to face Lobi Stars in a crucial Round 33 fixture this weekend.
The former Super Eagles captain, who rejoined Kano Pillars after a spell in Turkish football, had missed a string of matches in both league and cup competitions during his time away.
However, his return comes in line with expectations set by the club’s head coach Usman Abdallah.
“Yes, Ahmed Musa has returned and resumed training with the rest of his Kano Pillars teammates,” Abdallah confirmed. “We did physical exercises today, and he will be available for selection for the match against Lobi Stars this weekend.”
Musa’s return is seen as a timely boost for Sai Masu Gida, who currently sit 9th in the league standings after Matchday 32 and are aiming to finish the season on a strong note.
Known for his pace and experience, the 31-year-old forward remains a key figure both on and off the pitch.
While Musa’s availability provides a lift, Kano Pillars will be without another senior figure, Shehu Abdullahi, for the upcoming fixture.
Abdullahi was absent from Wednesday’s training session due to travel complications after attending the funeral of fellow Nigerian player Abubakar Lawal, who recently passed away in Uganda.
“Shehu arrived in Abuja from Sokoto but could not get a flight to Kano. He therefore did not participate in today’s training and will not play against Lobi Stars,” Abdallah said. “It is not his fault. The roads are not in good condition, so he did not take the risk of traveling by road. However, he will be available for next weekend’s match against Enyimba in Aba.”
Despite sitting mid-table, Kano Pillars remain in contention for a strong finish in what has been a competitive NPFL campaign.
The return of Musa, with his wealth of international and club experience, could prove vital as the season enters its final stretch.
Kano Pillars host Lobi Stars in what promises to be a pivotal encounter, with both sides eager to secure vital points.
Musa’s inclusion in the squad adds further intrigue, as fans anticipate the impact of one of Nigeria’s most decorated footballers back in familiar colours.
