Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thuso Moleleki training with Lerumo Lions

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thuso Moleleki is training with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Lerumo Lions as he searches for a new club.

Soccer Laduma understands that Moleleki is no longer contracted to Orlando Pirates, with the midfielder now undergoing an assessment at Lerumo Lions.

Lerumo Lions head coach Tshepo Maphari confirmed Moleleki’s presence at the club but stressed that no agreement has been reached.

“He has not yet signed but he’s still training with the team,” confirmed Maphari.

A source familiar with the situation said Moleleki had ended his time with the Soweto club and was now attempting to earn a contract with Lerumo Lions.

“I believe he terminated (his contract) with Pirates and he’s now at Lerumo Lions,” said our source.

Moleleki joined Orlando Pirates from Orbit College in July 2024, signing a three-year deal with the Buccaneers. He was subsequently sent back to Orbit College on loan.

The midfielder made his Orlando Pirates debut in September 2024, featuring in the club’s 2-1 victory over Chippa United at Orlando Stadium.

He went on to make four appearances for the Soweto side before returning to Orbit College on loan.

Moleleki played 15 matches for the North West club last season, but his involvement could not prevent Orbit College from being relegated.

His current training spell with Lerumo Lions gives him the opportunity to secure a new club after his departure from Orlando Pirates. However, Maphari’s comments make clear that the midfielder remains under assessment and has yet to complete a move.

Lerumo Lions compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, while Moleleki will now be hoping to convince the club’s technical team that he can become part of their squad.
