In a verdict delivered on December 14, Sidy Sarr, the ex-Nîmes Olympique footballer, faced sentencing for his involvement in the prostitution of two minors that transpired on October 15, 2021, in Nîmes.
Absent during the hearing, Sarr received a six-month suspended prison sentence and was fined €30,000.
The footballer, who played 48 matches between 2019 and 2022, including 18 in Ligue 1 with Nîmes, departed the French club in 2022 to join Portuguese side Chaves.
The sentencing followed a trial before the criminal court, wherein Sidy Sarr was found guilty of engaging in the prostitution of minors.
The charges stemmed from an incident where two underage girls stole Sarr’s Audi Q3, leading to their subsequent involvement in prostitution, attempting to sell the vehicle in Nîmes’ Pissevin district.
Despite not being present at the hearing, the footballer was handed the suspended sentence and a substantial fine.
The Nîmes public prosecutor’s office representative sought the maximum fine established by law, amounting to €75,000. In the aftermath of the legal proceedings, Sarr seemingly relocated to Portugal, providing no updates to his lawyer, who refrained from presenting a defense in court.
The case unfolded when Sarr reported the theft of his Audi Q3. Three young girls, including two minors aged 16 and 17, were apprehended after attempting to sell the stolen car.
During custody, the minors revealed having engaged in sexual relations with the footballer, alleging financial compensation. Initially acknowledging awareness of their underage status, Sarr later wavered in his statements, contributing to the complexity of the case.
