Former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has sent his war wishes to new Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle as he embarks on a new journey.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) recently unveiled the former Mali gaffer Eric Chelle to take charge of the Super Eagles, becoming the 42nd official head coach in the team’s history.
Chelle replaced Finidi George, who resigned following a disappointing start to the World Cup qualifiers, including a draw with South Africa and a loss to Benin.
His appointment comes at a pivotal moment, as the Super Eagles currently find themselves struggling in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
However, Rohr, who is the longest-serving Nigeria coach, acknowledged Chelle’s appointment and encouraged him to make the most of his opportunity.
“Nigeria has a new coach, Eric Chelle. I wish him all the best. He will give you the chance to get the best players of the country,” Rohr said.
Rohr took over Benin after being fired from Nigeria, and he has performed admirably there, even defeating the Super Eagles.
The Super Eagles are set for two crucial matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe this month as they seeks to revive their qualification chances after a sloppy start.
The West African powerhouse, who are pitted in Group C has managed just three points from the initial four matches in the qualifiers.
