Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson predicts Mohamed Salah’s departure
Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has speculated that Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the season as a free agent. Salah, currently in the final 12 months of his contract, could potentially exit Anfield next summer if no new deal is agreed upon.
Speaking to UK-based bookmaker Betfred, Johnson said, “I believe Mo, but also Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will leave.
They’ll have a long list of clubs wanting to sign them as free agents, and if Liverpool knows they aren’t going to renew their contracts, it would be foolish not to cash in.
You can’t have players of their calibre walking out on a free.”
When asked specifically about Salah’s future, Johnson noted, “It depends because Mo still has a lot to offer.
He doesn’t play like someone who’s 32, so as long as he feels fit, he can continue at this level for a few more years.
You’d hope a move to Saudi Arabia isn’t on his mind just yet.
If he’s available on a free at the end of the season, there’ll be a list of exciting clubs ready to sign him.”
Salah joined Liverpool in 2017, returning to the Premier League after a previous stint with Chelsea that saw him spend time on loan in Serie A with Fiorentina and AS Roma.
His impact at Liverpool has been immense, playing a key role in the club’s Premier League and Champions League triumphs.
During his time at Anfield, Salah has scored 214 goals in 353 appearances, solidifying his status as one of the best forwards in the club’s history.
The Egyptian forward has started the current season in impressive form, with three goals and three assists in Liverpool’s opening four Premier League fixtures.
He also recently celebrated earning his 100th cap for the Egyptian national team.
As speculation around his future grows, Liverpool fans and football enthusiasts alike are watching closely to see if the club can secure Salah’s services beyond this season, or if the Egyptian star will indeed move on to a new challenge.
